"One of the things I love about Raleigh is that the community itself is such a creative place."

Step into the galleries at CAM Raleigh, and the first thing you’ll be struck by is the expansiveness of the space. As large as it is, it can barely contain the excitement executive director Gab Smith has about the future of art in Raleigh.

For three years, Gab has been at the helm of this contemporary art museum that’s at the epicenter of Raleigh, N.C.’s art scene. Its ever-rotating exhibitions celebrate creativity in all its forms and use a myriad of media to provoke thought and challenge hearts.

At CAM, the goal is to get people engaged with art, whether it’s their first time or they’re frequent visitors. From lectures and family-friendly weekend programs to Art of Cool nights featuring musicians and DJs, there’s always something exciting happening.

Located in downtown Raleigh’s Warehouse District, CAM itself is surrounded by inspiration. A walk around the neighborhood reveals artist studios and galleries, restaurants of all types, even an old-school video game arcade. As Gab notes, Raleigh visitors could design a whole weekend around just seeing art and still not have time to see it all.

Visit CAM Raleigh and open your mind to new thinking with ever-changing experiences that explore what's now and nearing in art and design. The guided tours every Sun. featuring current exhibitions are a must. (And how cool is it that admission and tours are free to skaters who bring their skateboard?) First Fridays are also golden opportunities to visit: admission is free, student docents are there to answer questions about the art, delicious food trucks are onsite and there's plenty of entertainment on hand. So what makes CAM Raleigh even cooler? The fact that for special events, including Hopscotch Music Festival, the museum converts into a live music venue/art museum hybrid, hosting hip hop, EDM, rock and more. Learn more
