Mudcats to affiliate with Braves in 2015

Published:

ATLANTA - The Atlanta Braves' advanced Class A team is moving to Zebulon starting next season.
The Braves move will mark the franchise's return to the Triangle for the first time in 18 years when they were based in Durham from 1980 to 1997.

"The Carolina Mudcats are extremely pleased to partner with Atlanta to bring the Braves back to the Triangle," said Steve Bryant, owner and president of the Mudcats. "They have enjoyed a great past playing in this area with wonderful fan support."

The teams announced in a release Monday they reached a two-year player development contract with the city of Zebulon.

The Braves Advanced-A team played in Lynchburg, Va., from 2011-14. The Mudcats were the Advanced-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians the last three years.

"We are delighted to reach this agreement with the Carolina Mudcats," Braves president John Schuerholz said. "This move will allow us to continue our long-standing affiliation with the Carolina League."
