Raleigh Beer Trail FAQ and Rules

We welcome you to the Raleigh Beer Trail! The Greater Raleigh Convention and Visitors Bureau (Visit Raleigh) has worked with Raleigh, N.C., area breweries to bring you this rewards program.

We'd love your feedback on the trail as we're always looking to improve it to make the experience even better! Feel free to send comments and suggestions for the trail to beertrail@visitRaleigh.com.

FAQ and rules

If I completed the Raleigh Beer Trail in past years, can I complete it again in 2024 to receive the 2024 edition prizes?
Yes! (And we encourage you to try some breweries you didn't during your past completions of the trail!)

Is the digital Raleigh Beer Trail Passport free?
Yes! At this time, the Passport is free. No purchase necessary to check in at the breweries.

Any big changes to the Trail for 2024?
Yes! And a big one! Since 2016, the Raleigh Beer Trail has utilized a printed Passport format, but even back in the trail's early days, we considered a digital format and have been exploring platform options since. This year, to bring you a mobile experience, we partnered with digital passport provider Bandwango—used and trusted by many destination marketing organizations like Visit Raleigh across the country. We hope you enjoy the new format, and if you have any feedback, please email us at beertrail@visitRaleigh.com.

You'll notice another big change! This year there are just two prize levels (vs. three), yet you can ultimately still redeem three items. You now only have to check into five breweries (get 50 points and spend them) to get both the first- and second-tier prizes at once, in a combo pack (this year, a bottle opener/coaster and a beer hugger). Then, you can visit 10 breweries and spend those 100 points earned on the T-shirt. (Bandwango uses a point earning-and-spending system to redeem prizes.)

Related questions:

If I started a printed Passport in early 2024, can I still redeem for prizes?
Yes. If you printed a Passport prior to March 11, 2024 (the date on which we officially launched the digital Passport), and have been getting stamps, you can keep working on your printed Passport. We have let area breweries know that we are still accepting printed Passports and that they can still stamp them. When you are ready to submit your printed Passport, you can do so here.

If I started a printed Passport in early 2024, can I transfer progress to a digital Passport?
Unfortunately not.

Can I complete both a printed Passport and a digital Passport in 2024?
We are only accepting one Passport (whether printed or digital) per individual, per year.

Do I need to mention the digital Raleigh Beer Trail to brewery staff? Is there anything they need to do for me to check in?
Technically, no. To check into breweries, turn your mobile device's location services on and open your Passport when you are at a brewery. Go to the respective brewery's listing on the Passport, and you'll unlock the option to tap a "check in" button. (So there's no need to mention the trail to brewery staff, unless you just want to mention how much fun you're having with it!)

Some breweries have production facilities plus offsite taprooms and/or restaurants. Can I check in at all of a brewery's properties?
In past years, we've only included brewery production facilities on the Passport. But with the increased opening of brewery taproom-only locations and restaurants and the increased investment into those places, we've added those to the list of eligible check-in locations. (A visitor can experience a brewery's fresh beer, brand and personality very similarly at their offsite locations, compared to their production facilities.)

Some breweries brew outside of Raleigh/Wake County but have taprooms or restaurants in the county. Can I get a stamp at those places?
We only include breweries on the Beer Trail that brew inside of Wake County lines.

Can I submit more than one Passport per year?
We are only currently accepting and fulfilling one of each prize, per individual, per Passport each year.

Can I get a T-shirt in my size?
We will do our best to provide the T-shirt in the size selected on your Passport submission.

Can I check in for points at beer festivals and events?
Check-ins are only available at Wake County brewery locations.
