Raleigh's Mom's Nite Out
The Greater Raleigh Convention and Visitors Bureau, in conjunction with Molly Gold of Go Mom Inc., co-hosted Raleigh’s Mom’s Nite Out on Thursday, May 5. Moms across the country celebrated in this national event, and the local event allowed moms in Raleigh to join in the fun. This exclusive event brought together Social Media Moms from across North Carolina for a night of fun at Solas, the upscale urban restaurant and nightlife hotspot in the heart of Glenwood South. During the event, Social Media Moms were pampered by Primp Salon Bar and Massage Envy, and moms at home were able to join in on the fun when the party was live-streamed. The event provided wonderful exposure for the GRCVB, as it was able to connect with the Social Media Moms and establish itself as a resource, full of information regarding the Raleigh area.

Sustainable Cooking
Raleigh’s own Irregardless Café and Catering was recognized for its sustainability efforts. The restaurant and catering company was presented the Smith Seal of North Carolina Sustainable Business Award – Small Business Lifetime Sustainability by the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce. The award was presented in a ceremony at the 27th anniversary celebration of the Pinnacle Business Awards. For more than 36 years, Irregardless Café founder Arthur Gordon has served healthy, eco-friendly, vegetarian meals; and in 1985, the café became the first non-smoking restaurant in North Carolina. This Raleigh restaurant has become a staple in the community, not only serving wonderful food, but also featuring performances by local musicians. Congratulations on winning, and thanks for contributing to Greater Raleigh’s green scene.

National Tourism Day
National Travel and Tourism Week was held May 7-15. The tradition was first recognized in 1983 when Congress passed a joint resolution naming the first full week in May for the event. To mark the occasion, Governor Bev Purdue proclaimed May 10 as North Carolina Travel and Tourism Day. As part of the day, GRCVB participated in events held in the Capital City. The events are all part of an effort to promote the power of travel and increase awareness of the hospitality sector’s contributions to the state’s economy, as well as the cultural and social benefits created by travel and tourism.
