'Tis the season to start your holiday shopping, and what better

Straight from Broadway
The Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts sets the stage
for a month of dazzling performances including: Rain: The
Beatles Experience (11/4-11/9), The World's Greatest
Magic Show (11/12-11/13), comedian Jerry Seinfeld
(11/14), An Evening with Colin Mochrie and Brad Sherwood
(11/16) and everyone's favorite orphan, Annie (11/18-11/23).
The Carolina Ballet presents a joyous celebration of music and dance,
accompanied by the N.C. Master Chorale, during Messiah (11/26-11/30),
and the Burning Coal Theatre Company and the Raleigh City Museum collaborate
on a roving site play Main Street/Fayetteville Street (11/15-11/16).

Sounds of the Season
The music never stops in Greater Raleigh. Enjoy the bluegrass sounds
of Dailey & Vincent (11/12) or the classic rock tunes
of The Music of Led Zeppelin (11/15) performed by
the N.C. Symphony-both at the Progress Energy Center for the Performing
Arts. Dolly Parton (11/7) belts out classic country
at the RBC Center and The 8th of November Concert Celebration
featuring Billy Ray Cyrus, Josh Gracin and Bo Bice (11/8)
closes out Koka Booth Amphitheatre's concert season.

The Holiday Spirit
November marks the beginning of the holiday season, and the Raleigh
area doesn't disappoint with its roster of festive events. The
64th Annual Raleigh Christmas Parade (11/22) is a family
favorite as floats, bands and larger-than-life balloons make their
way through downtown Raleigh. If music and carols put you in the spirit,
the Capital Area Handbell Festival (11/15) has more
than 500 bells ringing in unison at the N.C. State Fairgrounds, the
Trans-Siberian Orchestra (11/22) puts a rock n' roll
twist on traditional holiday favorites and the N.C. Symphony presents
the annual Holiday Pops (11/28-11/30) at the Progress

Sports Center
Whether it's hitting the ice, the court, the field or the open road,
the Raleigh area is host to numerous sporting events this month. Put
on your running shoes during the Sony Ericsson City of Oaks
Marathon and Rex Healthcare Half Marathon (11/2), or watch
as the NHL Carolina Hurricanes take to the RBC Center
ice (11/1, 11/2, 11/7, 11/9, 11/12, 11/16, 11/18, 11/21, 11/23,
11/26, 11/30). The best of the best in collegiate women's
soccer take the field at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary during the ACC
Women's Soccer Championship (11/5-11/8), N.C. State
Football takes on Wake Forest (11/15) and
Miami (11/29), and the N.C. State Men's Basketball
team plays five home games at Reynolds Coliseum (11/6, 11/11,

Exhibits
Take
time to explore the greatest archeological treasures ever discovered
- the Dead Sea Scrolls (through 12/28) at the N.C.
Museum of Natural Sciences. This blockbuster exhibition displays 12
authentic scrolls, representing portions of the Biblical books of
Genesis, Isaiah, Deuteronomy, Exodus and others. Also on display are
more than 100 ancient artifacts, non-biblical manuscripts, religious
writings and prayer texts. In addition, the museum will describe scientific
conservation and preservation of the Scrolls. The N.C. Museum of Natural
Sciences isn't the only museum with worth exploring; the N.C. Museum
of Art showcases the artwork of Julie Mehretu in an exhibition titled
City Sittings (through 11/30) and the N.C. Museum
of History celebrates waterfowl culture with Art-Duck-O (ongoing).
The [R]evolution of Media (ongoing) at the Raleigh
City Museum examines the early histories of how newspaper/radio/television
each got their start, the major players in each of the industries,
the early and modern day technologies that have pushed the evolution
of the fields, and includes spotlights on interesting sub-stories
