Fortify I-40/440 Improvement Project

Nov. 2014—Spring 2018

In order to fortify Interstate 40/440 for safer, more efficient travel in Raleigh, N.C., the N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT) initiated the Fortify improvement project. Fortifying the southern portion of I-40/440, a stretch of 30-year-old Raleigh interstate, is a must as the roadway was in critical need of repair.

The Greater Raleigh Convention and Visitors Bureau, in consultation with NCDOT, is here to help visitors have the best possible experience when traveling to and from the area while the road construction is taking place. Use the resources below to make your ground travels to and from Raleigh a breeze (and maybe even fun)!
