Often times, public space is overlooked or engaged with repetitive attention. Many are overly distracted or blind to what is happening in the physical environments they pass through in any given day. This disregard, rooted in complacency, acts as a buffer against the unpredictability of the world.
Mary Carter Taub uses colorful tape to energize public spaces and shifts the focus so the invisible becomes assessable, the overlooked becomes prominent and the ordinary becomes playful. The Block Gallery is excited to present her installation Freeze! in a space many pass through to pay water bills, buy bus passes or walk to their office each morning. Hopefully, this colorful presentation will "freeze" viewers for a moment to stop and take notice.
