Opioid Epidemic Uncovered: Finding the Prescription for Recovery Lunch Conference

September 14, 2017

The Poe Center for Health Education and the NC Medical Society Alliance will host a luncheon conference to examine the opioid crisis and explore collaborative solutions. The luncheon will feature former LA Times reporter and national speaker Sam Quinones, author of the acclaimed book Dreamland: The True Tale of America’s Opiate Epidemic. Quinones will recount how prescription painkillers entangled with heroin led to the nation's deadliest drug plague in modern times. A panel of experts will discuss the impact of opioids in their communities and the steps they are taking to combat the issue. A robust Q&A with the audience will explore collaborative solutions. The panel will include speakers such as members of law enforcement, the medical sector, preventative education and investigative reporter Sam Quinones. The Center will recognize incoming and outgoing Board Members and honor community members who contribute to children’s health and education in North Carolina. The event will be hosted by Steve Daniels, ABC11 news anchor and investigative reporter. CEU credits offered for attendance.
