Photography Exhibit: The Fabric of Raleigh and People with Purpose

August 10 – October 1, 2017 (Recurring daily)

Award-winning photographer Christer Berg will be exhibiting two large portrait series called The Fabric of Raleigh and People with Purpose in a solo show at the Betty Ray McCain Gallery at the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts. The Fabric of Raleigh series is in the exhibit represented by more than 20 large-size portraits, from firefighters and pastors, cobblers to baristas, ballet dancers to construction workers. Ordinary citizens who together do extraordinary things, for our community and for each other, are documented in a style that combines the quality of studio portraiture with the authenticity of street photography. In addition to the portraits, behind-the-scenes photographs, essays, stories and quotes will also be on display.

People with Purpose is a series of environmental portraits of people across N.C. who in their own way contribute positively to our community. The series includes sculptor Thomas Sayre, costume designer William Ivey Long, Carolina Ballet artistic director Robert Weiss and many others. An opening reception will be held Aug. 10, from 5:30-7:30pm, with a closing reception Oct. 1, from 3-6pm.
