Former Washington High School

  • 1000 S. Fayetteville St.
    Raleigh, NC 27601

Washington Gifted and Talented Magnet Elementary School’s history starts with its completion in 1924 as the first public high school for African-American students in Raleigh. The impressive Jacobean Revival-style structure is a reminder of 1920s public policy aimed at improving public education for blacks as well as whites in North Carolina. Washington is now nationally recognized as a Magnet School of Distinction.
