Glory of Venice: Renaissance Paintings 1470-1520

Through June 18
On display at the North Carolina Museum of Art, Glory of Venice: Renaissance Paintings 1470-1520 is a new exhibit highlighting the development of Venice's distinct Renaissance style from the second half of the 15th century to the early 16th century. More than 50 works, many of which have never been on view to the public outside of Venice, will be available for art lovers to enjoy. Paintings will also be on display all the way from Venice's Gallerie dell'Accademia, which houses the finest collection of Venetian Renaissance art in the world. This special exhibit includes works by Giovanni Bellini, Carpaccio, Giorgione, Titian and Jacopo de Barbari.

Artspace 30th Anniversary Retrospective Exhibitions

Through June 23
Join local non-profit visual art center Artspace for their 30th Anniversary Retrospective this spring. Two exhibitions are available for your enjoyment: a juried exhibition in Gallery Two, April 21-June 3, celebrating the strength of the artists at the heart of the organization; and a non-juried Corridor exhibition, April 7-June 23. Take a stroll through the exhibits and enjoy paintings, sculptures and more from local artists.

En Plein Air: Paint the Town

Art in the Garden

Join Raleigh Little Theatre for their annual arts festival, Art in the Garden. This one-day event features a jury-selected lineup of visual artists, My Cup Overflows and Fresh Outta Brooklyn food trucks as well as live entertainment. Enjoy the beautiful flowers as you walk the grounds of the Raleigh Municipal Rose Garden and check out the live demonstrations on gardening techniques by Witherspoon's rose experts happening throughout the day.

Brahms Symphony No. 1

Longleaf Film Festival

Consider yourself a film buff? The Longleaf Film Festival at the North Carolina Museum of History is free to attend and explores historic and contemporary stories from the state, the country and the world through narrative and documentary movies. You'll also have the opportunity to meet independent filmmakers and actors associated with many of the films at the festival.

13th Annual Ritmo Latino Music, Art & Dance Festival

Bring the entire family for the Ritmo Latino Festival! Learn more about Latino music, dance and visual arts. Plus, taste traditional Hispanic foods from around the world and shop with many of the craft vendors at the festival. You'll enjoy taking in the richness of Hispanic culture as you learn from the many Latino artists and artisans during this one-day festival.

Front Porch Artwalk

Stroll through the gorgeous tree-lined streets of the Oakwood/Mordecai neighborhood during the 9th Annual Front Porch Artwalk this May. The homeowners and businesses are hosting more than 60 up-and-coming and established local artists on their porches and in their yards. Shop for ceramics, photography, glass, jewelry, paintings, fiber arts, handmade bath and body products, sculptures, metal works and more. The event is free and families, kids and pets are all welcome!

Wendell Spring Into the Arts Walk

May 13
Spend the day meeting artists during the Town of Wendell's day long gala of visual, fine and performing arts! The Wendell Spring Into the Arts Walk features artists of all ages, and artists are welcome to apply to paint a picture that will be available for auction at the end of the day. Later in the day, listen to live bluegrass music at the J. Ashley Wall Square and make a bid at the silent auction, with proceeds going toward projects recommended by the Wendell Appearance Commission.

Artsplosure - The Raleigh Arts Festival

May 19-21
The arts take over streets of downtown Raleigh during Artsplosure (pictured in the header) with sidewalk chalk murals, large-scale, interactive visual art installations, an Art Market with more than 180 exhibitors and more! The festival balances critically-acclaimed national artists with some of N.C.'s best performing and visual artists. There's also something for the kids! Make plans to enjoy Kidsplosure, showcasing interactive educational activities and entertainment for children and their parents.


Paperhand Puppet Intervention

May 20
The Paperhand Puppet Intervention fabricates fantastical worlds with the most ordinary of materials. Watch as giant puppets, stilt dancers and shadow puppets dance and interact with music at the Cary Arts Center. This event is not to miss—for both adults and kids!

Matilda The Musical

May 23-28
Winner of four Tony Awards® and one of the biggest hits on Broadway, Matilda The Musical is heading to the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts! Based on the popular novel by Roald Dahl, Matilda is an incredible musical for all ages.
