Cheers to Beer Month in Raleigh, N.C.! In celebration of N.C. Beer Month 2017, the Raleigh area's nearly 30 breweries, bottle shops and craft brew restaurants are going all out to give you even more reasons to raise your glass to local beer.
Beautiful Raleigh spring weather and delicious local brews have proved to be a winning combination, and April beer festivals have become a staple in the City of Oaks. Any day is a good day to drink in the excitement of the local beer scene, but these are the beer festivals and events you need to know about this month.
Mid-Town Square Spring Festival (4/1)
This second annual festival kicks off Beer Month in the heart of downtown Cary. Bond Brothers Beer Company, recently voted the best new brewery in the country, will host the day-long, family-friendly event, jam-packed with live music, special beer releases, local food trucks and more. (Dogs are welcome, by the way!) The festival is free to attend but drink tickets for beer, wine and cider can be purchased in advance online or on-site at the event (cash and cards). A free concert by the band Mountain Goats begins at 5pm—get there early because this event is expected to be popular!
World Beer Festival Raleigh (4/1)
World Beer Festival Raleigh (pictured in the header) is all about BIG! Big venue, big crowds and big tastes. Held at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds for the second time, this festival gives you a chance to sample from more than 250 craft and specialty beers from around the world. Interested in a more local experience? The N.C. Beer Garden section at the festival has more than enough to keep you busy, showcasing our home state's best brewery offerings so you can revisit old favorites or discover new ones. Those with dietary restrictions may appreciate the Cider Garden, with more than 20 different gluten-free cider options on hand to sample. Need to know: no person under the age of 21 is allowed at the event.
Beer and Bacon Fest (4/8)
What's not to like? Two of our favorite things in one festival at Koka Booth Amphitheatre make for a perfect way to spend a day in Cary. Grab your souvenir glass and get to tasting with a selection of more than 75 international beers and wines on hand, and make a mark in the two tons of gourmet bacon from 10 vendors from across the country that will be griddled on-site! Captain and the Keels and 120 Minutes will be providing the live music, and you won't want to miss out on the bacon eating contest! Items to bring: blankets, chairs, an appetite and a designated driver!
Featuring craft breweries from N.C., plus local food trucks, vendors and bands, the ever-popular Brewgaloo is back with another two-day festival in 2017. The Fri. night portion of the event, an exclusive chance to sample some of N.C.'s best beers, will be open from 6-10pm and requires a separate ticket. The Sat. event, from 2-10pm in downtown Raleigh's City Plaza, gives you the option of purchasing either beer samples or full pints from more than 90 N.C. breweries. One reason Brewgaloo is a favorite event for residents and visitors? More than 50 local food trucks will be on hand, serving up the perfect grub to pair with cold brews. Need to know: no admission fee to enter the festival on Sat., so bring extra friends to hang out (plus a designated driver)!
Even more April events featuring beer that are worth the trip:
Casks on Fools (4/1)
The 4th annual Beer Month kick-off party at Crank Arm Brewing features truly-unique casks from more than 20 N.C.-based breweries—we're talking everything from mango habanero IPAs to chocolate cream stouts.
Live & Local: Spring Fest (4/8)
This annual, family-friendly street festival features a full day of music, artists, inflatables for kids, a beer zone from Raleigh Brewing Company and more. Local band Chatham County Line will headline the music festival Sat. evening.
Big Boss Brewing Rooftop Takever (4/9)
Twelve taps from Big Boss Brewing Company will take over the rooftop bar of the world's largest beer garden—Raleigh Beer Garden in downtown Raleigh—in celebration of Beer Month. Beers from Big Boss's seasonal series and oak aged offerings from the "Strange Cargo" line-up will be available.
Brewer's Challenge Beer Festival (4/29)
Oak & Dagger Public House issued a challenge to more than 20 of their local brewery friends—make a single hop beer using only Cascade hops, and no IPAs or pale ales allowed. Attend the festival and you'll get to taste all of these unique beers plus cast a vote for your favorites!
