Imagine Roy Williams, Mike Krzyzewski, and Sidney Lowe all getting along in one place.  Or walking to work and spotting Golf prodigy Dakoda Dowd and “Mr. Belding” from Saved by the Bell just hanging around Downtown Raleigh.  These odd sights can only mean one thing: The 16th-annual Jimmy V Celebrity Golf Classic has invaded Raleigh! Renowned throughout the US and especially here in the Triangle, everyone looks forward to flux of celebrities, great golf games, and the camaraderie shared for this wonderful cause!

The Jimmy V Celebrity Golf Classic began in 1994 when Jim Valvano created the event to raise funds for cancer research. The event began with only two golf courses, one hundred and fifty golfers, and thirty-two celebrities. The Classic has had tremendous support throughout the years and can proudly announce its success in raising over $13 million in cancer research funds, having over 329 celebrity participants, and a whopping 12,709 people have volunteered (Jimmy V Golf). To say The Classic is a big deal is an understatement.

However, what's the best part of The Classic this year? The 2009 Classic is coming home to the Triangle! This year's Classic will take place August 12th-16th at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course on North Carolina State University Centennial Campus right here in Raleigh. A perfectly accessible and convenient location for celebrity, spectator, or participant alike. Downtown Raleigh offers an array of  restaurants, hotels, and excellent nightlife to satisfy almost anyone's tastes! Not to mention, this year's wine dinner and acclaimed Gala will be held at the Raleigh Convention Center. A perfect opportunity for visitors to view some of Raleigh's best aspects!

For golf enthusiasts the Jimmy V Classic is a must. Even if participating is out of the question, grab a couple of friends, watch a couple of games, and mingle with celebs. It's for an amazing cause and will guarantee an amazing time. Come play for a cure!
