Cooped up in an office all day? Tired of the regular summer weekend outings at the ballpark?  Look no further, the North Carolina Museum of Art has the solution to almost all of the summertime blues; and at prices that even the most economically cautious visitor can appreciate! Summer 2009 is the summer of culture and the NC Museum of Art is leading the pack with their summer series “Arts in the Park”. According to their website: “the Joseph M. Bryan, Jr., Theater in the Museum Park, a 2,700-capacity open-air theater (and a work of art in itself!), has made the North Carolina Museum of Art a favorite destination for lovers of great music and movies as well as fine art and sculpture”. (NC Art Museum) .

This year’s “Arts in the Park” is rumored to be the best yet because of the impressive list of entertainers slated to perform, including the headlining act “Sisters of Soul” which features Bettye LaVette and Marcia Ball. LaVette’s soulful sound recently graced the Obama Inaugural Concert at the Lincoln Memorial and she has appeared on the Tonight Show as well as famous venues across the US including Radio City Music Hall. Ball is a Grammy-award-winning musician who “brings her celebrated brand of rollicking southern boogie, roadhouse blues, and heartfelt ballads” (NC Art Museum)  to Raleigh for all to enjoy.

Don’t miss out on these wonderful performances and the chance to see them at the Bryan Theater! Check out the Museum’s website for dates and ticket prices and we’ll see you on the lawn!
