Historic Yates Mill County Park, a 174-acre wildlife refuge and environmental research center, is open to the public with free admission seven days per week, year-round from 8am to sunset. The centerpiece of the park is Historic Yates Mill, pictured below, the last operable water-powered gristmill in the Raleigh, N.C., area. Placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974, the mill is open for a variety of guided tours from Mar.-Nov., where guide operators will proudly tell you about the rich history behind the mill's importance to the area.

A trip to explore Historic Yates Mill County Park is perfect for a family visit, for a fun outdoor date or even for your own daily escape.
