A Fine State of Disrepair

Jason Craighead (b.1971) is an abstract artist based in Raleigh, North Carolina. In his mixed-media works, drawing, painting, and writing fuse seamlessly together His surprising compositions create a fragile balance between frantic pencil marks, large areas of color, and soft washes of white paired with deep blacks. The artist’s varied materials and application bring tension and drama to the canvas with midnight blacks and glowing metallic swaths often contributing movement and depth.
