About
Adrianne Huang’s works on paper are hypnagogic in their content yet grounded in their depictions, with an atmosphere of tender mournfulness and longing. The world of her images is one of rich detail and melancholic fantasy, giving glimpses into an unsettled present and uncertain future. Her depictions of human subjects within such a world express an underlying frustration with the human condition and propose half-answers to difficult questions. These questions ask about the expression of vulnerability in the face of an ambivalent outside world, the condition of being at odds with oneself, the nature and necessity of coping mechanisms,
and the ephemerality of memory and moments. Huang’s work invites viewers to join her in grappling with such subjects from a personal perspective, and to pursue catharsis in the absence of certainty
Medium: Watercolor and gouache on paper
