Cane Mill Road plays an eclectic mix of bluegrass, newgrass, and old-time Appalachian mountain music. From Deep Gap, NC, the band has played internationally, on PBS/NRP, as well as at nationally known festivals such as MerleFest, IBMA, Grey Fox, Delaware Valley, and countless other venues. All the band members have ties to Junior Appalachian Musicians programs. Liam Purcell (mandolin, guitar, fiddle), now 16, started in Boone JAM at age 7. Eliot Smith (bass, guitar) also took JAM lessons in addition to learning from his grandfather. Tray Wellington first heard banjo at a middle school music class and he’s been playing ever since. Casey Lewis (vocals, guitar) from Rocky Gap, VA rounds out the band and also teaches with the Bland JAM program.
If you want to hear more from this talented group, be sure to head over to the IBMA Youth Stage in front of the Raleigh Convention Center on Saturday afternoon, and they'll be back at the J.A.M. Stage at Martin Street on Saturday evening, too!
