Celebrating Art & Transportation on Poole Road

The City is celebrating the completion of the Poole Road Widening Project with a ribbon-cutting event marking improvements between Maybrook Drive and Barwell Road. The project includes a widened roadway, a new median, sidewalks, and bicycle facilities to improve safety and accessibility for all users.

As part of the improvements, public artist Sharon Dowell created unique bus shelters and a sculptural bench at the Neuse River trailhead. These installations highlight haiku from North Carolina poets and members of the Carolina African American Writers Collective, including Lenard Moore, Patricia A. Johnson, and Valeria Bullock, adding a creative and welcoming artistic element to the corridor.
