Welcome to our 9th annual Day of the Dead 5k happening Saturday, October 26th 2019. The Day of the Dead 5k was originally created to honor my sister Margarita's memory after she passed away on Oct 2nd 2003. During this holiday the ritual of setting up an altar has offered me a safe and colorful space to remember her. This altar is open to all, and over the years we have seen it grow as people bring pictures, letters, flowers, food and other trinkets as offering to their loved ones too. This year we will be adding a new offering to our beloved Hernando, brother, husband, father, friend. We encourage everyone that is participating in this event to contribute to the altar, I can assure you that it will offer you some peace and healing.
We have once again partnered with the Brentwood Boys & Girls Clubs in an effort to give back to the Latin American community by offering the kids an opportunity to do something fun and healthy-something Margarita believed in deeply.
This year we have a goal to sponsor more than a 100 kids from the Club to run the race through our “Sponsor a little runner” program where $30 dollars can contribute to pay a member’s entry fee. During the last eight years we have had over 4,500 runners and have been able to contribute over $112K to the Boys & Girls Club.
