About
Everclear, one of the leading alternative rock bands to emerge in the 1990s, has built a three-decade career led by founder, vocalist, and guitarist Art Alexakis, who continues to perform and create music. Formed in 1992 after Alexakis’ previous band Colorfinger dissolved, Everclear rose from the Portland indie scene with early releases like Nervous & Weird and World of Noise before signing with Capitol Records and breaking through with the platinum album Sparkle and Fade and its hit Santa Monica. Across 11 studio albums, more than 6 million records sold, and 12 Top 40 hits—including Father of Mine, I Will Buy You a New Life, Wonderful, and Everything to Everyone—the band has remained a staple of ‘90s alt-rock.
In 2019 Alexakis revealed he had been living with Multiple Sclerosis for years and now donates $1 from every ticket sold to charities including the National MS Society and Sweet Relief Musicians Fund. The band has continued celebrating its legacy with the 30th-anniversary reissue of World of Noise, the retrospective Everclear – 30 Years Gone: A Retrospective hosted by Matt Pinfield, and the live album Live at The Whisky a Go Go, while Alexakis also runs the Summerland Tour and released his solo album Sun Songs, proving Everclear’s legacy and live appeal remain strong more than 30 years on.
