About
A.K.A. Metal Shop 101. After a brief safety and tool introduction, participants will begin exploring the MIG welder, or as we call it the “Hot Glue Gun for Metal.” Each student will have a welding station where we will discuss and practice some basic types of welds, and proper setup for each. As an intro to working in a metal shop and ShopSpace facilities, this class is designed to cater to all skill and comfort levels.
You will learn to cut steel using the horizontal band saw. Angle grinders will be used to prepare metal for welding, and then dressing it after. We will practice a few different types of welds and discuss how to start putting things together. Participants will have the opportunity to spend some time using each tool introduced. In the last half of class you can practice different operations, make pencil holders, cubes, or scrap bin sculptures!
