About

In this class, participants will learn the basic techniques to create pattern welded steel, also known as Damascus. Alternating layers of 1084 and 15N20 steels will be used to make an 8 layer billet. We will prepare the metal, stack and weld together, then forge weld by hand using our high temperature gas forge. Once the billet has been created, participants may manipulate the steel by twisting to develop a pattern. You will leave the class with a small billet that can be used to make future projects such as a bottle opener, bracelet, or small knife.

Be prepared to swing a heavy hammer as you forge high carbon steel by hand. Participants must be able to work one inch thick steel by hand. It is also recommended that participants have basic MIG welding skills.

Please note that you must have taken the Forging Intro class before you can register for this class.
