In the tight-knit free climbing community, Alex Honnold is a legend. On June 3, 2017, he accomplished a free solo climb of the 3,000-foot granite wall of El Capitan in Yosemite without protective equipment, arguably the greatest feat of climbing in human history. Filmmaker Jimmy Chin, himself a climber, led a team to record Honnold’s ascent.

“For 100 nerve-wracking minutes, Free Solo brings us one man’s suicidal quest with sympathy, grace, and a ton of adrenalin” (Entertainment Weekly).
