About
Faculty and students of the North Carolina Chamber Music Institute invite the public to join a celebration of the birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr. when they perform music of black composers at a free concert. The concert will be held Mon., Jan. 20, at 7:30pm at Hayes Barton United Methodist Church, 2209 Fairview Rd, Raleigh, NC 27608.
Dr. Timothy Holley, cellist and associate professor of music at NC Central University, is curating the program which will include works by composers Timmothy Baker, Jessie Montgomery, Leslie Adams, and more! The concert will also feature NC native composer and singer James Dargan, performing songs based on poems by Langston Hughes.
Immediately prior to the concert (6pm), NCCMI will present, "Conversation with the Composer" with Mr. Dargan! Anyone interested in how someone becomes a composer should plan to attend this interactive event.
