Born in Plymouth, North Carolina and raised in Mount Vernon, New York, J.B. Smoove is an Emmy Award-winning actor, comedian, writer, and producer known for his distinctive comedic voice. He rose to prominence with his breakout role as Leon Black on Curb Your Enthusiasm, joining in its sixth season and remaining a standout through its twelfth and final season. His performance earned him NAACP Image Award and SAG Award nominations, solidifying his reputation as one of today’s top comedic actors. Before that, he wrote for Saturday Night Live, winning a 2007 WGA Award, and built a diverse television career with roles in series like Everybody Hates Chris, The Last O.G., and Real Husbands of Hollywood, along with an Emmy-winning turn in Mapleworth Murders.

Smoove’s work spans film, voice acting, and stand-up comedy, with credits including Pootie Tang, Top Five, Barbershop: The Next Cut, and voice roles in Ice Age 4 and Harley Quinn. A seasoned performer with over 30 years in stand-up, his energetic storytelling has earned him a devoted following, highlighted by specials like How I Dooz It.
