Renovating & Remodeling the Home Landscape

About

Gardening classes always assume you’re starting with a blank slate, but that’s rarely the case. How do we work with an existing garden, whether it’s one we’ve recently moved to, or one we’ve worked on for years that we’re ready to completely redo? In this 6-week course, you’ll learn practical strategies for evaluating, renovating, and rejuvenating your garden, all while keeping what’s working and improving what’s not.

We’ll cover how to assess your current plants, decide what to keep, and which plants need to go (and how to properly remove them—whether it’s trees, weeds, or even stubborn turfgrass). You’ll also gain insights into soil health, planting techniques, and how to seamlessly integrate new plants into existing beds without disturbing what’s already thriving. This hybrid course is offered both in-person at the JC Raulston Arboretum and online via Zoom, giving you the flexibility to attend from anywhere. Can’t make it to every session? No worries! All lectures will be recorded and shared with participants each week, so you won’t miss any valuable content.

Course Topics Include:
Evaluating and assessing your existing landscape and plants
Strategies for plant removal and relocation
Identifying your landscape's needs and future goals
Planting techniques for new and existing beds, including transplanting
