Curious about what data science and AI bring to your life everyday? Join us for an evening discussing exciting local research from scientists at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences, UNC-Chapel Hill, UNC’s Renaissance Computing Institute (RENCI), NC State University, and beyond! You’ll learn about exciting research using artificial intelligence and data science methods to spark charismatic animal research, health-related research, participatory science opportunities in your backyard and across the globe in Galapagos, Puerto Rico, and beyond. The highlight of the evening will be the Science Cafe talk and its relevance to your daily life. You’ll leave the evening knowing how artificial intelligence benefits Museum research, art, and the world around us.

7pm, Science Cafe: Illuminating Artificial Intelligence: Using AI to increase the value of Museum specimens. Our evening keynote pairs Dr. Chris Bizon, Director of Data Science and Analytics at RENCI and Dr. Lily Hughes, Research Curator of Ichthyology at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences and Research Assistant Professor at NC State University, highlighting how artificial intelligence illuminates our understanding of the Museum’s ichthyology collections.
