About

What makes Scottish whisky one of the world’s most celebrated spirits? In this lively lecture - complete with a bagpipe player and Highland dance performance - Dr. Craig Hill will guide us through the world of Scotch whisky, drawing on biology, chemistry, history, business, and the quirks of language to show how this “water of life” came to hold such a salient place in global culture. This will include discussing the science of fermentation and distillation, the role of peat and oak in shaping flavor, and the centuries of tradition (and marketing genius) behind Scotland’s most famous export.

Best enjoyed with a wee dram in hand, this talk will also feature the sounds of bagpipes and the flair of Highland dance, bringing a touch of Scotland right into the lounge.

Dr. Craig Hill is the former Senior Vice President of Research Triangle International, where he worked for over 22 years on quantitative and survey data research across a domain of topics. With a talent for blending serious knowledge with good humor, he will offer the perfect introduction to the art and science behind Scotland’s national drink.
