Track or Treat: Halloween Express

New Hope Valley Railway (NHVR), the Triangle’s Train, will celebrate Halloween three weekends in October with its Track or Treat: Halloween Express trains.

On Saturdays, Oct. 12, 19 and 26, visitors to the all-volunteer railway can enjoy a spooky kid-friendly train ride complete with scenes of flying witches, smoking cauldrons, large pumpkin faces, Count Dracula and other friendly creatures along the route. Passengers can also play Mummy Mayhem, a game where riders search for 13 mummies hidden along the train tracks.

Before or after the train ride, many activities will take place in the rail yard including photo opportunities, songs by the popular singing pumpkins, a creepy gallery of artwork in the North Carolina Railway Museum’s stationary caboose, children’s activities and kid-friendly food for purchase.

“The excitement begins the moment visitors arrive to the rail yard that has been transformed into a spooktacular array of Halloween amazement,” said Tom Hutchinson who heads up marketing at the all-volunteer railway. “Passengers of all ages are encouraged to dress up in their favorite costumes and make memories on the only Halloween event in the Triangle with a real train ride.”

Each ride day has five train departure times at 2:45, 4:00, 5:15, 6:30 and 7:45 p.m. Daylight departure times are recommended for families riding the train with younger children.
