Unshackled: Culture in the Age of Mass Incarceration, features artworks created by community members during incarceration and was produced by North Carolina Prisoner Legal Services and Impartial. This exhibition was curated to show the skill, cultural awareness, and experience of incarcerated individuals. Through the individual works and each artist’s story, visitors can see the multifaceted experience of spending life in confinement. 

North Carolina Prisoner Legal Services is a nonprofit law firm dedicated to ensuring equitable access to the courts for people incarcerated in North Carolina state prisons. Impartial is a criminal justice nonprofit that creates funding and volunteer opportunities to support criminal justice reform. Unshackled is on exhibition through October 30.
