Violet, a young North Carolina mountain woman, suffered an accident as a girl that left her face permanently disfigured. She embarks on a bus trip across the deep south in 1964 in pursuit of a miracle: the healing touch of a TV evangelist. Along the way, she meets two soldiers who can see past her scar to her inner beauty and vie for her affections. It is up to Violet to discover her truth in this rousing, moving, award-winning musical.
