After a one-year hiatus, Wendell Wonderland is back on with a great lineup of family activities while supporting the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. Wendell Wonderland will be on Friday, December 3 from 5-9 pm in downtown Wendell and will host activities like the Lake Myra Light Show, trolley rides, a holiday market, dance and chorus performances, Santa Claus, a cookie walk, tree lighting ceremony, food trucks and more! Visitors are encouraged to bring new, unwrapped toys for children in need up to the age of 12 at multiple donation sites while enjoying the festivities.
Kick off the holiday season with a trolley ride around historic downtown Wendell, before checking out the light show containing more than 400,000 lights synchronized to holiday music. Grab some hot cocoa and delicious eats at one of many food trucks and restaurants downtown before doing some handmade holiday shopping with local craft vendors. Save room for dessert and get your sugar fix at the Wendell United Methodist Church’s annual Cookie Walk, offering grandma-approved homemade cookies for $10 a box. Your tastebuds will be eternally grateful. Catch one of 7 choral and dance performances and attend the 23-foot tree lighting ceremony at Town Square, complete with a snow machine! Don’t forget that Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive in a bright red fire truck after the tree is lit!
As a part of this family-fun-filled event, the Town of Wendell tries to support other families that are in need during the holiday season. Wendell partners with the Raleigh Marine Toys for Tots Foundation to host a donation drive at Wendell Wonderland each year. The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation coordinates with local social welfare agencies, church groups, and other local community agencies to distribute toys—with 566 million toys distributed to date. The primary goal of Marine Toys for Tots is, through the gift of a new toy, to help bring the joy of the holidays and send a message of hope to America’s less fortunate children.
