About

The Hindu Society of North Carolina presents World Dance Fest in celebration of International Dance Day, curated by an icon of Indian classical dance in the Triangle, Guru Supriya Desai. This event is a fundraiser for artists who were impacted by Hurricane Helene in Western North Carolina. WDF will feature local, regional and out of state dancers ranging from intermediate level to professional in their respective dance styles. There will be a variety of cultures represented such as but not limited to, Indian classical/folk, Mexican Ballet Folklorico, Modern, Traditional Aztecan, Lebanese Dabke, Chinese Classical/folk and Eastern European folk dances. Two to Four pm will feature beginner to intermediate local dancers. Following that from 4 to 5 there will be an interactive flash mob dance outside the hall featuring performers. From 5 and onwards, the main portion of the show will begin with intermediate to professional dancers who have performed at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall and toured Europe.
The show headliner performance will be done by Barynya, Russian dance, music, and song ensemble. They have performed at various high profile events such as the black-tie Gala after the Liberty Medal was presented to former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev by President George H.W. Bush in 2008, or official post-Grammy Award parties in New York, private events hosted by Barbara Walters, Elton John, The Rolling Stones, and Tommy Hilfiger. They’ve also performed on NBC’s Today show and Superstars of Dance, where their artistic director Mikhail Smirnov was a judge.
