World War I Film Series: All Quiet on the Western Front (1930)


This American-made film follows a group of idealistic German schoolboys who get caught up in the nationalistic fervor that helped lead to 1914’s European War. An Oscar winner for best picture—and also nominated for best cinematography—this film is on the American Film Institute’s 100 Greatest American Movies of All Time list. This is one in a monthly series of films meant to help interpret some of the scope and complexity of the Great War.
