Love Broadway shows but never find yourself making the trek to NYC? Ballet enthusiast? Lover of the NC Symphony? Whether you fall under one or all of these categories, the Progress Energy Center for Performing Arts is your destination location for the evening. With an amazing venue, convenient location, and affordable prices, The Center and its many attractions will capture your heart in more ways than one and provide you with the evening out you've been waiting for!
The Progress Energy Center, located on South St., contains an assortment of different venues, including: Memorial Auditorium, Fletcher Opera Theatre, Meymandi Concert Hall, Kennedy Theatre, and Lichtin Plaza. Memorial Auditorium, fully operational since 1932, brings a vintage yet sophisticated feel to The Center with its exquisite décor and state-of-the-art stage. Memorial is home to the NC Theatre but does not limit itself to these performances only. Expect to see ballet, contemporary concerts, an array of theatre productions and comedy.
Fletcher Opera Theatre is home to the Carolina Ballet. With over 600 seats and the farthest seat being only 68 feet from the stage, this venue provides a very intimate performance experience. Audience members will be wooed here by the likes of the National Opera Company and the A.J. Fletcher Opera Institute.
Meymandi Concert Hall is the newest addition to The Center and also the new home to the NC Symphony. This concert hall features 1700 seats, shoebox shape, and no proscenium. These specific elements will add to your experience as they provide the clearest, most quality sound for you to enjoy. Kennedy Theatre is also innovative in its design and performances. Boasting 170 seats and 40 x 60 feet blackbox theatre, this is the perfect venue for unique types of theatre.
Lichtin Plaza is the last of the venues but certainly not the least. Lichtin is the two-acre plaza in front of The Center. With beautiful aesthetics, accented at night by lights, this is the perfect place to take a break during intermissions or hang out before or after shows. The Plaza also serves as a venue for outdoor festivals and performances.
The Progress Energy Center is the perfect spot for a sophisticated and enchanting, yet affordable night out in Raleigh. With a myriad of performances and events, there is never a dull moment at The Center. For a schedule of events, visit The Center’s website or drop by the elaborate box offices. Make The Progress Energy Center your destination this weekend!
