In case you haven't already planned a day full of your mother's favorite things for Mother's Day (or if you're looking to add a few more), check out some of these tried-and-true activities in Raleigh, N.C.

Give the Gift of Indulgence

Check out one of Raleigh’s gourmet and handmade chocolate shops. Grab some artisan Venezuelan chocolates with unique flavors like chipotle chili and vanilla or pumpkin seeds and guajillo at Escazu Artisan Chocolates Retail Shop, a small-batch chocolate shop in the Mordecai neighborhood, or head over to Videri Chocolate Factory where offerings range from organic dark and milk chocolate to rosemary honey caramels (pro tip: they even have a special Mother's Day Bonbon Pack.)

Bond Over a Run

Invite your mom, grab your tennis shoes and head out to the Run Like a Mother 5k. This Sun. morning race will take you through Wakefield Plantation, home of TPC At Wakefield Plantation. At the finish line, celebrate your accomplishment with refreshments, food and activities. Registration is $15 for the one-mile Fun Run (ages three-12) and $40 for the 5k (13+).

Start a Tradition

Strawberry season is upon us! From late April to early June, head out to Hunt’s Strawberry Farm in Raleigh, Phillips Farm of Cary or DJ’s Berry Patch in Apex and pick your own juicy and delicious strawberries that pack a nutritious punch—bonus points if you make mom homemade strawberry shortcake! Because these farms are based on supply, their hours can change on a moments notice, so it’s best to call ahead.

If you have kids celebrating with you, consider packing a lunch and going on a picnic in Pullen Park. This kid-friendly park has plenty of features to keep your family entertained, including a lake where visitors can rent pedal boats, a carousel and more.

Another favorite is Lake Johnson Park, only a 10-minute drive from downtown Raleigh. Throw in your fishing line on the bridge overlooking the lake, take a long walk on the nature trail or rent canoes, kayaks or paddleboats and enjoy the view.

We wish all of the mothers out there a happy Mother’s Day!
