Firewürst boasts their menu as "THE alternative to the monotony of Burger and Burrito boredom." If you're in the mood for something new, you should visit Firewürst. The newest location just opened in Cary at 1823 N. Harrison Ave. Last Fri., Firewürst hosted a competition at The Chef's Academy. The competition gave The Chef's Academy students the opportunity to win prizes and have their winning dishes featured on the menu at Firewürst's newest location. Lucky for Firewürst visitors, I got to try these delicious dishes! Each team was required to create one sausage dish and one gourmet hot dog dish.

The teams were quite creative during the competition. Dishes ranged from a sausage sandwich with an apple-spiced pepper trio to the “Spicy Brooklyn,” which was a deep-fried beer-battered spicy dog. The three teams did an excellent job during the competition, but only one team could take home the win.

The Chef's Academy TeamThe first place winners were Chris Daniels and Rance Slabaugh of The Chef's Academy. Both were awarded $350 each, embroidered chef’s jackets and high quality knife kits. The first place team created a Yuengling-infused bratwurst and pickled coleslaw with a cheddar mustard sauce.
