The N.C. Museum of History is one of nine museums chosen to host the traveling exhibition, Discover the Real George Washington: New Views From Mount Vernon.  Starting September 10th, 2010, more than 100 original objects associated with Washington will be on display.  The N.C. Museum of History is the only venue in the Southeast hosting this profound exhibit.

Highlights of the items on display include three life-size models of Washington at different stages in his life based on forensic research, Gilbert Stuart’s 1798 portrait of Washington, the family Bible from Washington’s personal library, and surveying equipment and maps used by Washington.  You can also find items associated with his wife, Martha, such as her original jewelry, glassware and reproductions of her gold wedding dress.

Chances are, you won’t know the real George Washington (and Martha) until you visit this unique and engaging traveling exhibit in Raleigh.
