Downtown Raleigh was built on history. From presidential birthplaces to the origins of City Market, Downtown is not without its share of stories. However, there have been seldom opportunities for people to explore Downtown’s rich past until now. The Raleigh Rickshaw Company invites all to participate in their new historic tours. Spend the day enjoying the fresh air, the beautiful scenery, and prepare to take in some of the richest history in the South!
The Raleigh Rickshaw Co. began in the spring of 2007 as an alternative for transportation in the downtown area. Founder Donald Mertrud saw the need for these handy bikes when Downtown’s nightlife began to boom and now they’ve become a permanent staple. It’s almost impossible to go anywhere now in Downtown without seeing several of these eco-friendly vehicles zooming up and down the streets!
The popularity of the rickshaws can only grow as Raleigh Rickshaw has added an addition to their usual services. Last spring, they introduced an educational aspect to the rides by offering historical tours. People can enjoy the experience and immerse themselves in Downtown Raleigh’s past all at the same time! These one hour tours come equipped with your own personal tour guide and the 200 year old history of the city. Expect to see almost dozens of historical sites including ‘Grog Alley’, City Market, and historic Downtown buildings! Tours begin in front of the Raleigh City Museum from 10 a.m. till 4 p.m. Tickets are $30 per rickshaw. Each rickshaw can hold up to two adults and one child and groups are welcome.
Whether you’re a Raleigh native looking for something to do or only in town for the week, a historic rickshaw tour is a perfect way to spend your time. Allow Raleigh Rickshaw Co. to awaken your inner history buff and enjoy this amazing experience. You’ll never look at Downtown Raleigh the same ever again!
