The Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts hosts the most elegant, immersive suite of live-performance venues in the Southeast. Here, you can indulge your love of theater, opera, ballet, symphony and other live entertainment in artfully designed performance halls and centers. Raleigh’s Center for the Performing Arts is one of the best places to attend live performances, and there are several to choose from in the months ahead.
On April 21st, Bill Maher will return to Raleigh after two sold-out shows in 2010. Maher was on Comedy Central’s Politically Incorrect from 1993 to 2002, and for the last seven years, he has been on HBO’s Real Time. Setting the boundaries of where funny, political talk can go on American television, his unflinching honesty and big laughs have garnered him 21 Emmy nominations. On April 28-30, the North Carolina Opera Company will perform FAUST by Charles Gounod. Conceived by acclaimed stage director James Marvel, this production combines original video and impassioned music to create a thrilling theatrical event. Tickets range from $26 to $77.
On April 29th, the North Carolina Symphony will perform some of the best music inspired by William Shakespeare in Shakespeare in Music. Enjoy Delius’ The Walk to the Paradise Garden, from A Village Romeo and Juliet, Dvorak’s Othello Overture, and other selections by Nicolai, Berlioz and Mendelssohn. Tickets are $25.
