An historically Black college founded by Rev. M.L. Latta in 1892 on his farm adjacent to Oberlin. Rev. Latta established the university to solve racial problems through the non-sectarian education of its students. His 1903 autobiography “The History of My Life and Work” can be read online. The university ceased operation around 1920, and its last remaining building, Latta House, burned in 2007.
