Completed in 1924, Washington Graded and High School enrolled African American students from elementary through high school and was Raleigh's first public high school for African-American students. The building is an impressive Jacobean Revival-style structure. Closed in 1954, Washington Graded and High School is now home to Washington Gifted and Talented Magnet Elementary School - a nationally recognized Magnet School of Distinction.
