ACC Soccer Championships return to WakeMed Soccer Park

 

CARY, N.C. - For the second straight year, Cary's WakeMed Soccer Park will play host to both the Atlantic Coast Conference Men's and Women's Soccer Championships.

The ACC Women's Championship is scheduled November 4, 6, and 8, while the ACC Men's Championship is set for Nov. 10, 11, 13 and 15.

"On behalf of the Town of Cary, Capital Area Soccer League, and the Greater Raleigh Convention and Visitor's Bureau, it is with great pleasure that WakeMed Soccer Park will once again be host to both the Women's and Men's ACC Soccer Championships," said Keith Jenkins, the WakeMed Athletic Facility Supervisor.

The Women's Championship, featuring defending NCAA champion North Carolina and five teams currently ranked among the nation's Top 10, opens with four quarterfinal games on Wednesday, November 4. The semifinals are set for Friday evening, November 6, and the title game will be Sunday, November 8, at 2 p.m.

The Men's Championship, featuring defending NCAA champion Maryland and six current Top-15 teams, opens with a first-round game between the eighth- and ninth-seeded teams on Tuesday, November 10. The quarterfinals are scheduled for Wednesday, November 11, followed by the semifinals on Friday evening, November 13, and the title game at 1 p.m. on Sunday, November 15.

"We are excited to be returning to WakeMed Soccer Park," said Davis Whitfield, ACC Associate Commissioner and Director of Championships. "The Town of Cary does a terrific job with all aspects of our Championships, and our student-athletes always look forward to competing in such a first-class venue."

Seedings and pairings for the ACC Women's Championship will be announced on Monday, Nov. 2. ACC Men's Championship seedings and pairings will be announced on Monday, Nov. 9. Ticket sales are currently underway, and several special offers are available for each event.

All-session packages for each Championship are priced at $30 for adults and $20 for youth (ages 3-18 years and college students with valid student IDs) and seniors. Single-session tickets are $15 each for adults and $10 each for youth and seniors. Children under three years of age will be admitted free.

Day-of-game specials will also be offered at the gate during the Tuesday game of the Men's Championship, as well as the Wednesday and Friday sessions of each Championship.

All tickets to the men's first-round game on Tuesday, November 10, are priced at $5 each.

Family Packs will be offered on the Wednesday (November 4 and November 11). The packs feature four session tickets, four hot dogs and four drinks for $24. In addition, high school students will be admitted each Wednesday for only $5 with a valid ID.

On each of the Friday semifinal dates (November 6 and November 13), all college students purchasing a ticket with a valid student ID will also receive a free ticket to that Championship's Sunday match.

In addition, ACC Kids Club Members (8th grade and under) will be admitted free on Championship Sundays (November 8 and November 15). Membership registration, which includes an official ACC Kids Club ID card, is available at ACCKidsClub.com.

WakeMed Soccer Park, which opened in May of 2002, is a 150-acre multi-use complex operated by the Town of Cary, N.C. In addition to both ACC Soccer Championships, the facility will also host the 2009 NCAA Men's College Cup (Dec. 11 and 13). It played host to the Men's College Cup in 2007 and Women's College Cup in 2008.

The park is a frequent home to professional matches, high school tournaments and other events such as youth football, lacrosse and ultimate Frisbee. A world-class cross country course encircles the park, and will be the site of the 2009 ACC Championships. The main soccer facility features a lighted field and permanent seating for 7,000 with expansion capability.
