Canes aim to host 2011 All-Star Game

The Carolina Hurricanes are pushing to get the All-Star Game in 2011, general manager Jim Rutherford said on the team's website.

Rutherford told carolinahurricanes.com he planned to deliver the team's proposal to the NHL office in New York next week.
Carolina is hoping to get the event in 2011.

"Our application looks very strong and our market looks strong," Rutherford told the site. "Some of the things that the league talked about after we had the successful draft here [in 2004] were the convention center and hotels, and all that has changed now. We have a beautiful convention center, we have some beautiful four- and five-star hotels and our airport is totally upgraded."

The 2011 All-Star Game had been scheduled to be in Phoenix but that franchise is on shaky ground.

The NHL has promised to bring the All-Star Game to Raleigh but has not set a date.
