Raleigh, N.C. (Sept. 25, 2025) – From rolling greens to roaring crowds, Cary’s golf scene culminates annually with the highly anticipated SAS Championship, drawing thousands of fans to cheer on the top golfers in the world over the age of 50. This year’s field will feature six World Golf Hall of Famers, 12 major championship winners and 12 players that have already won an event in this year’s PGA Tour Champions schedule. Celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, the event will take place October 6-12 at Prestonwood Country Club.

Recognized as one of the premier events on the Tour for players, spectators and partners alike, the tournament goes well beyond the fairways with a week of programming that reflects the spirit of the Greater Raleigh community. Event week is programmed with multiple meaningful initiatives — from honoring fallen and disabled service members and first responder families through Folds of Honor Friday, to celebrating emerging talent and diversity in the sport at the HBCU Invitational and Women’s Day, which brings together inspiring women from across the Triangle for meaningful conversations and networking. In partnership with SAS and the YMCA of the Triangle, the tournament also raises funds to provide school supplies for local STEM classrooms, underscoring its commitment to youth education and long-term community investment. In its 25-year history, the SAS Championship has donated more than $6 million to area youth educational initiatives, with the YMCA of the Triangle being the current host charitable organization.

In collaboration with the PGA Tour and the Black College Golf Coaches Association, the SAS Championship launched the HBCU Invitational in 2022. Now entering its fourth year, the SAS Championship HBCU Invitational will return in 2025 with another unique element. As part of the annual PGA Tour Champions Tournament, teams from leading HBCUs will compete for a share of $30,000 in awards, donated by SAS as honorariums to the winning teams’ golf operating budget. The tournament will take place Oct. 11-12 at Prestonwood Country Club, with teams playing three rounds over the two days. The tournament is the first event of its kind to feature student-athletes from HBCU schools competing alongside pros from the PGA Tour Champions at the same time and location.

“Very few events reach 25 years, and we’re proud that the SAS Championship has become such a staple in this community,” said Jeff Kleiber, Tournament Director of the SAS Championship. “That longevity is possible because of the incredible support from SAS, the Town of Cary and Prestonwood Country Club. Together, we’ve built a tournament week that not only showcases world-class golf but also brings the community together in a way that makes it a must-attend event year after year.”
