Raleigh Twilight Criterium Announces New Race Date

Raleigh, N.C. – Race organizers announced that the Leith BMW Twilight Criterium, an NRC event, will be held May 26, 2006 in downtown Raleigh. Building on last year's hugely successful inaugural race, this year's event will again usher in the Memorial Day weekend with fast-paced action and live music under the lights on a Friday night.

The Leith BMW Twilight Criterium will attract world-class racers from around the country who are competing for National Racing Calendar points and a share of the $15,000 race purse. Participants and spectators will enjoy the same course that got rave reviews last year – a one-mile circuit with quick, challenging climbs and high-speed turns.

Raleigh's Leith BMW Twilight Criterium will launch an extended 4-day weekend of east coast NRC racing. Following the action in Raleigh Friday night, cyclists will head up to Baltimore for the Bikejam/Kelly Cup on Saturday afternoon and the Snow Valley Grand Prix of Bethesda on Sunday before capping off the weekend with the Tour of Somerville on Monday - a Memorial Day tradition.

Other major sponsors of the Leith BMW Twilight Criterium include the News & Observer, Greater Raleigh Convention and Visitors Bureau, Raleigh Convention Center and Endurance Magazine. The race is organized by the Capital Cycling Club and the Raleigh All-Stars Club. All proceeds benefit Habitat for Humanity of Wake County. For more information, visit www.raleighbikerace.com
