The app was created for IBMA's World of Bluegrass 2013 event: bluegrass music's annual industry gathering and family reunion. Held for the first time in Raleigh, World of Bluegrass 2013 runs from September 24-28. The International Bluegrass Music Association - IBMA - is the professional trade organization for the global bluegrass music community.
"Raleigh wants to make sure that everyone knows of the multitude of options for memory-making experiences throughout the five days of IBMA's World of Bluegrass," Mayor Nancy McFarlane said. "This app makes it easy to map out your places to be in the World of Bluegrass at the right time. I applaud and thank everyone who helped make this happen."
The app includes helpful information about all aspects of the five-day event, including schedules for the Business Conference, the after-hours showcases known as the Bluegrass Ramble and the weekend's Wide Open Bluegrass festival schedule, both for the ticketed portion at Red Hat Amphitheater/Raleigh Convention Center and the free StreetFest portion in downtown Raleigh. Fans can also access bios and website links for many of the week's performers; get transportation info; find out more about the NC Pork Council's Whole Hog Barbecue State Championship; see a map of the StreetFest footprint and a map to the Red Hat Amphitheater; a list of StreetFest vendors and World of Bluegrass sponsors. Plus photos, videos, camping info, hotel info, other things to do, restaurants, deals for attendees, and more.
The app was created by CrowdTorch (a division of Cvent, a company specializing in festival apps) in partnership with the Local Organizing Committee's technology committee, IBMA and the Greater Raleigh Convention and Visitors Bureau (GRCVB).
Loren Gold, Executive Vice President of the GRCVB and co-chair of the LOC said, "We are excited to give visitors to Raleigh a tool that will highlight all the sites, sounds and tastes of WOB 2013! This was a great collaborative partnership between IBMA, the IBMA Local Organizing Committee and our vendor. This is a detailed and visitor-friendly app product that we can not only use for IBMA, but other large city-wide events in the future."
