Sunday, March 17, 2013, 8pm
BALTIMORE, March 14, 2013 -US Lacrosse and the Greater Raleigh Sports Alliance (GRSA) today announced a promotion to award two teams a registration credit for the third annual US Lacrosse Southeast Championships, powered by Lacrosse Unlimited, June 7-9 at the WRAL Soccer Center in Raleigh. Registration remains open for U11, U13 and U15 boys' and girls' lacrosse teams for the only youth lacrosse tournament in the South run by the sport's national governing body, and coaches can register their teams at uslacrosse.org/2013southeastchampionships.
All teams that register will be eligible for the promotion. Prior to the start of play, one boys' team and one girls' team will be selected at random to receive a $250 credit. Team registration fees for the US Lacrosse Southeast Championships already rank among the most affordable for youth lacrosse tournaments at $1,000 for a U11 team, $1,250 for a U13 team and $1,350 for a U15 team. Teams will participate in pool-play and bracket-play games officiated by US Lacrosse-trained officials and staffed by certified athletic trainers.
"US Lacrosse continues to be a tremendous partner of the GRSA, and we're excited to work with US Lacrosse staff and volunteers to provide a great tournament experience for the youth lacrosse community in the South," said Jason Philbeck, sports marketing manager for the GRSA, a division of the Greater Raleigh Convention and Visitors Bureau. "We're delighted to welcome all teams and families to a first-class venue in the WRAL Soccer Center and to experience all that Greater Raleigh has to offer."
US Lacrosse has administered youth lacrosse tournaments for 16 years, including its Southeast Championships in Raleigh in 2011 and 2012. The event will return to Raleigh this year and next year. Last year's event drew 46 teams from 11 states. In the U15 age division, the top four teams will earn automatic bids with free or reduced registration to the US Lacrosse U15 National Championships, powered by Lacrosse Unlimited, July 23-25 (girls) and 26-28 (boys) at ESPN Wide World of Sports in suburban Orlando.
"We appreciate working with the GRSA to host our Southeast Championships," said Beth Porreca, director of special events at US Lacrosse. "Raleigh is an outstanding and accessible destination for youth teams and families south of the Mason-Dixon Line. Our youth tournaments allow our members to compete with class, honor the game, and build relationships with teammates and opponents alike."
The WRAL Soccer Center, owned and operated by the Capital Area Soccer League (CASL), features more than 15 fields, including three with turf and lights, a field house, concession stands, and parking for 1,000 cars. The complex is just 20 minutes from Raleigh-Durham International Airport, and Raleigh is easily accessible from Interstates 95, 85, and 40. Greater Raleigh hosts nationally-acclaimed artists and concerts and family-friendly festivals and events, and it's within a short drive to eight colleges and universities in the Research Triangle area.
