After a record-breaking year, RDU International Airport (RDU) is flying higher than ever. In 2025, RDU served a projected 15.5 million passengers of travelers, added new airlines and expanded its roster of nonstop destinations—giving visitors more choices and convenience than ever before.
RDU International Airport is starting the new year with exciting additions and important changes for visitors. From new dining options and nonstop routes to parking updates and upcoming construction, here’s what you need to know.
New dining options
Bobby’s Burgers by Bobby Flay is now open in Terminal 2 near Gate C18, bringing the celebrity chef’s signature burger creations to RDU.
The menu features favorites like the Crunchburger, topped with American cheese, Bobby’s Sauce and potato chips—a perfect pre-flight treat. Bobby’s Burgers combines flavors from across the U.S. with Flay’s love of the grill for a unique dining experience.
Four nonstop routes added in December
RDU continues to expand its network with four new nonstop destinations launched in Dec. 2025, including two international routes:
- Dec. 6: Punta Cana (PUJ) via American Airlines
- Dec. 11: Portsmouth, N.H. (PSM), via Breeze Airways
- Dec. 18: Cancun (CUN) via Aeromexico
- Dec. 20: San Juan (SJU) via Delta Air Lines
Later this year, travelers will have a new option to fly nonstop from San Diego when Alaska Airlines launches daily service from the Southern California city. Check out the full list of 86 nonstop destinations on RDU’s website.
Terminal 2 construction begins
Big changes are coming to Terminal 2 as part of RDU’s $2.5 billion Transform RDU capital improvement program. This January, crews installed a temporary floor-to-ceiling wall at the north end of the terminal to begin a multi-year expansion project.
The construction will upgrade ticketing and international arrivals areas, add security checkpoint lanes and improve the baggage handling system. While visitors may notice construction activity, all ticket counters and security lanes will remain open. RDU’s guest experience team will be available to assist travelers during this period.
The Terminal 2 expansion is expected to be completed in 2032.
Park Economy 4 closes, Economy 3 expansion continues
RDU is restructuring its parking offerings to accommodate future growth. On Jan. 2, the Park Economy 4 lot near Interstate 540 and U.S. 70 permanently closed to the public.
Travelers can take advantage of the newly expanded Park Economy 3 lot off National Guard Drive, ParkRDU Express on International Drive or the parking deck between the terminals.
